It’s that time of year again, for a Flu Shot

Did you know that the Flu Vaccine takes up to two weeks to build up immunity? Most of us don’t know that very important fact, that makes it so important to get a flu shot early in the season for the best results. The CDC recommends getting vaccinated by the end of October for the most optimal benefits. While some of us may be skeptical of the vaccine the benefits outweigh the costs of potentially being hospitalized by the Flu this season. Here are some of the key benefits of getting a flu shot.

  • The Flu Vaccine can prevent you from becoming sick with the flu.
    • The vaccine is proven to reduce the risk of getting the flu by 40-60% !
    • It has also been shown to reduce the severity of the flu in those who still become sick despite having been vaccinated.
  • Being vaccinated yourself can help prevent those around you from contracting the flu. Especially children and older adults who are more prone to the illness.
  • The Flu Vaccine cannot give you the Flu
    • There are some side effects to the vaccine such as soreness at the site of the shot and rarely a low grade fever and muscle aches. These however are not the flu, they are just simply side effects of building immunity.
