Eastern NC is experiencing a flu epidemic, so many of you may be feeling under the weather. Prescription antiviral drugs may ease symptoms of the flu when taken shortly after you get sick, but there are also several home remedies that can help as well.
Here are a few home flu remedies we recommend:
1. Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water, fruit juice or electrolyte beverages such as Gatorade. Stay away from caffeinated drinks and alcohol.
2. Humidify. Breathing moist air eases nasal congestion and sore throats. It’s OK to take a few showers a day or sit in the bathroom while the shower gets steamy. You can also use a humidifier.
3. Get plenty of rest. Listen to your body and don’t overdo it. Take a nap and go to bed early. Now’s the time to catch up on those TV series you’ve wanting to watch or spend the afternoon reading a book or watching a movie.
4. Gargle with salt water four times a day to help soothe a sore throat.
