Getting your flu shot is very important. Up to 20 percent of people who are not vaccinated will develop the flu. In the United States, annual vaccination against seasonal influenza is recommended for all persons aged 6 months and older. The CDC estimates indicate that influenza vaccination reduced the risk for doctor visits by almost half!
The flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and family from the flu, the CDC says. It takes a person about two weeks to build up immunity against the flu after vaccination. The CDC recommends getting your flu shot by the end of October.
